Handsling has tied up a major sponsorship deal to become official bike supplier for the DAS-Handsling UCI Women’s Continental Team.
Handsling is providing UCI-approved road, time trial, track and cyclocross frames to the UK-based team for the duration of the 2023 season.
The race-winning performance of Handsling’s in-house designed frames will be showcased in high-profile races including the UK National Road Series, the UCI Women’s Tour and the British National Track Championships.
Pro team sponsorship represents a key element of Handsling’s global growth strategy as it expands its direct-to-consumer business model into new markets and supports the growth of women’s cycling.
Simon Whiten, Director of Handsling, said: “Handsling is extremely proud to become the official bike supplier to DAS-Handsling. From the start, we were hugely impressed with the strength of the roster and its vision for taking women’s cycling in the UK to the next level. The team set up and its support programme for emerging female cyclists ties in with Handsling’s objectives and was one of the main factors behind the partnership."
Simon Howes, Team Manager of DAS-Handsling, said: “There was an immediate connection with the people at Handsling. They’re incredibly supportive and want to get involved with the team. We’re looking forward to working with them on product development and hope this is a partnership that will continue for a long time."
Handsling support enables the team to continue for a fourth year as a UCI registered team and deliver a healthy domestic and international programme. This season, they are looking to retain both the individual and team titles in the UK National Road Race Series, as well as a successful crit campaign in the Tour Series and National Series.
Howes added: "In a time when women’s cycling is still in the ascendancy, but opportunities remain limited, it’s huge that we can take on a number of first year seniors to take their next steps into elite level racing.”
The DAS-Handsling squad is a blend of nationalities and specialities across the cycling disciplines. The team includes Team GB’s Sophie Lewis (above), who rode her Handsling TR3evo to a brilliant win in the UCI Track Champions League. Sammie Stuart (below) is the UK's top ranked elite female rider and 2022 individual champion of the UK National Road Race Series.
The riders will be mounted on Handsling’s line up of UCI-approved carbon frames, all of which are exclusive to the brand: A1R0evo for road, TR3evo on track, CEXevo in cyclocross and gravel, and a soon-to-be-released TT bike.
Handsling’s sponsorship of a women’s continental team meets its objective of expanding women’s professional cycling and supporting emerging talent. Handsling already supports numerous individual female riders at Junior and Youth level, several of whom are enrolled in the Team GB set up.
The partnership is Handsling’s second major sponsorship deal following its ongoing tie-up with US-based Chaney Windows & Doors Cycling. The CWD line up includes reigning British Madison Champion Will Perrett and reigning US Madison Champion Tristan Manderfeld.
