In Friday's frantic Circuit Race at Redcar, the girls fell agonisingly short of the podium, finishing fourth (Sophie Lewis), fifth (Emma Jeffers) and sixth (Monica Greenwood).
The race was briefly neutralised after a huge pile up caused by a touch of wheels on the start/finish line. Several DAS-Handsling riders were caught up in the carnage, including Sammie Stuart (below) who was taken to hospital with cracked ribs. We wish her well for a quick recovery.
Team DS Simon Howes said: "With a big team presence we rode well, nearly always visible in numbers at the head of the race. The crash towards end of race was unfortunate with us losing two riders from the bunch, but we still felt confident after the re-start, which was a 10 lap dash. Disappointed we didn’t finish on the podium but 4th, 5th & 6th shows the depth of talent we have in the team."
Sunday's Road Race involved seven gruelling laps of Saltburn Bank. Monica Greenwood (below) kept up her excellent form this season with a fine 13th place despite cramping up during the race. She described the course as "savagely hilly" and said she "left it all out on the road".
Analysing the race, Simon said: "We all knew this was going to be a very tough and tiring route. Monica again showed her pedigree with a top 15 performance. We followed her the last two laps and without doubt she gave 100% effort and commitment to achieve this result."
