As temperatures across the northern hemisphere plummet and post‑Christmas waistbands expand, the idea of riding outside can feel… optimistic. Before I owned a gravel bike, this time of year meant staring mournfully out of the window, cursing icy roads before retreating to the turbo; or the sofa. After a few too many crashes on black ice, I stopped riding the road whenever the thermometer dipped below 3°C. Torn kit, damaged components, and the risk of injury just weren’t worth it.
