National Championships Weekend

National Championships Weekend

It's that time of year again, when the nation's top riders battle to wear a coveted National Champion's jersey. This year's National Championships will take place over three days, in the Ceredigion region of Wales.

Time Trial

Handsling-Alba got their first podium thanks to Maddie Leech's third place in the Under 23 even, with Mari Porton taking eighth. Maddie beat Imogen Wolff (Team Visma–Lease a Bike) after a close battle for the final podium spot.

Meanwhile Lauren Dickson and Kate Richardson were seventh and eighth respectively, with Arianne Holland coming thirteenth. Lauren Dickson stopped the clock at 42:18.61 and was  the first rider to break 19 minutes at the intermediate timing point. Lauren was in the hot seat for most of the event and was only beaten by a few riders later in the event, for a fine team finish.

Circuit Race

Friday sees the women tackling a 1.6 kilometre circuit around the town of Aberystwyth.
Riders will start and finish on the iconic seafront before taking to the town centre streets. Handsling-Alba have five laps and fifty minutes of racing to look forward to, with the chance to put on that national Champion's jersey at the end.

Kate Richardson, victorious at the Lincoln Grand Prix and Tour de Femenin could be a potential winner and worth watching. With seven team-mates in the bunch, she won't be short of help.

The women roll out at 6.15pm; the open race follows at 8pm. If you can’t squeeze on to the seafront, British Cycling will stream the women’s race from 6.05pm and the open race from 7.55pm on its YouTube channel. Discovery+ and TNT Sports carry the action live too, with a highlights package on TNT 2 at 7pm next Monday.

Road Race

Sunday 29 June will see the 2025 National Road Championship get underway from the Aberystwyth seafront. The race will head out of town towards Y Gors, as far as Trawsgoed on a picturesque yet testing 23.4km anti-clockwise loop, heading back towards Aberystwyth, passing Abermad. With a maximum gradient of 9.1% at the beginning of each lap, the peloton will be thinned out as the action moves onto the finishing circuit after three laps. Handsling-Alba will be fielding a team of eight riders.

For fans not able to watch the races unfold from the roadside, you can watch along live on the British Cycling Youtube channel, Discovery+ online and TNT, plus a full highlights programme on Discovery+ and TNT2 at 7pm on Tuesday 1 July.
