Custom built bikes for Handsling's young racers

It's always a rewarding experience when we custom build bikes for youth racers. The team has assembled numerous bikes for youngsters who want a lightweight performance bike that's race legal, a perfect fit, and has room for that inevitable growth spurt.

More and more kids are getting into competitive cycling, be it hill climbs, triathlon, cyclocross, crits or track racing. While Handsling frames come in adult sizes, our smallest road, track and cyclocross frames will fit most riders at U14 and above.

Our youngest ever customer is triathlete Evie Bramall who was aged just 12 when she received her A1R0evo in Pearlescent Teal. The bike was custom built to fit Evie and comply with British Cycling regs. We fitted 160mm Shimano 105 cranks, a restricted 18-28t cassette, narrow 32cm bars, and an 8cm stem.

Riding her A1R0evo, Evie has had a brilliant season. Highlights include winning the BSCA National Hill Climb Championships and several regional triathlons. Evie was selected to represent the South Central Team for the British Tri Champs where she and her team took home the overall win. 

Another recent build was the silver bullet TR3evo track bike pictured above for a teenager whose bike had to conform to BC youth regs. We sourced shallow depth wheels and left plenty of room on the steerer tube to raise the bars in the future.

Many young riders start their bike racing journeys with Handsling. Some of them, like Fred Wright, go on to hit the heights of the pro tour. We always welcome of the challenge of building future-proofed bikes and are happy to advise on size and spec.
