Unacceptable Racing: a Cyclocross Documentary
As summer blurs into autumn, another kind of cyclist emerges from the shadows; the 'crosser'. While most pack away their prized bikes and reminisce about long, sun-soaked rides, the crosser is just getting started. For them, falling temperatures and darker days aren’t a signal to stop, they’re a call to action.
Gone are the alpine climbs and sweeping descents. In their place: short, brutal efforts, ankle-deep mud and the satisfying crunch of grit between your teeth. The crosser doesn’t chase glory over hours, they earn it in minutes, fighting for traction, control, and every gasp of air.
Ever wondered why anyone would obsess over tyre treads, dial in tyre pressure to the nearest PSI, or rehearse the cleanest line through a muddy switchback? This short film might just help you understand.
Unacceptable Racing a Cyclocross Documentary
If you feel that you'd like to give cyclo-cross a go, then do! The events are always very inclusive and other riders always happy to help with advice; useful or not! In local events you can ride on any kind of bike, but once you get the bug you will want a 'proper' cyclo-cross bike.
Fortunately Handsling have just the bike; the CEXevo. The CEXevo is used at all levels by pros and keen amateurs. Fast off-road, lightweight and stable, with the durability to sustain hard knocks, the UCI-approved bike is a thoroughbred CX race winner.
The CEXevo is Handsling's own unique design, manufactured from Toray T800 carbon-fibre. Like all Handsling bikes, you can choose your own colour and equipment. 1X or 2X, Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo. Tubulars or tubeless, it's your bike, your choice.
The only caveat when it comes to cyclo-cross was said best by John McGrath in Unacceptable Racing in; "be careful, if you start you won't be able to give it up!"
Unacceptable Racing was created by Matt Bristow, at the end of the 2024 season. Matt is a Kent based photographer who has a love of cold Sundays and muddy pitches.
