Handsling is a young, ambitious bike brand manufacturing unique carbon frames that we design in-house. Handsling builds these frames into high end bikes with top of the range groupsets.

Handsling frames have been ridden to multiple National, European and World titles, with many race victories in the UK and in Europe, and raced at the highest level, most recently the World Track Championships.

Recently valued at £7m, Handsling is growing fast and needs the best people to help fuel this growth. 

 

Workshop Manager

We need to employ a Workshop Manager to oversee bike building, servicing and all other workshop activity, as well as managing the team of technicians. Reporting into the MD and working closely with the Operations Manager, this is a key position for Handsling's future growth.

Based at our 4500sqft Oakhanger workshop and offices, in East Hampshire, close to the A3, it would suit an existing workshop manager with experience of running a workshop and looking to join a bicycle brand to further their career, or an experienced and successful bicycle mechanic looking to move into management.

The person:

  • A natural leader, willing to lead from the front

  • Sociable, presentable and good with clients

  • Highly organised
  • An experienced cycling enthusiast with passion and knowledge about the sport

Responsibilities include:

  • Management and recruitment of the team of 6 to 8 bike technicians
  • Management of the workshop build schedule via online Kanban boards
  • IT literate and used to using mobile devices to manage workflow, team members, stock, etc.
  • Ability to present forecasts to Directors 
  • Good knowledge of Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, etc high end groupsets and components
  • Leading from the front, demonstrating excellence and best practice, by building bikes
  • Compilation and dissemination of product knowledge among the team and to other management
  • Maintain the workshop infrastructure, tools and storage
  • Manage the cleanliness of the workshop
  • Liaise with the Operations Manager to maintain and manage the stock needed to complete the bikes
  • Provide on-site training for the team and recommend off-site training where appropriate
  • Being up to date with bicycle industry and product development knowledge
  • Providing practical input into Handsling's own product development
  • Be observant of health and safety procedures

Salary c. £35k+ negotiable depending upon experience and qualifications. We operate flexible working to suit the individual. Staff discount, pension and share option schemes.

 

Senior Workshop Technician

We have a vacancy for a Senior Workshop Technician, reporting into the Workshop Manager.

Based at our 4500sqft Oakhanger workshop and offices in East Hampshire, close to the A3, it would suit an existing bike mechanic or an experienced mechanic from another industry looking to move into working with high end bicycles.

The person:

  • A practical self-starter, quick to learn
  • A team player with empathy towards others
  • Sociable, presentable and good with clients
  • Honest and adaptable
  • Technologically proficient
  • Organised
  • A keen cycling enthusiast

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in a team of 6 to 8 bike technicians following the workshop build schedule via online Kanban boards
  • IT literate and used to using mobile devices to manage workflow, stock, and customers
  • Ability to forecast to manager
  • Good knowledge of Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, etc high end groupsets and components
  • Demonstrating technical proficiency, mechanical excellence and adherence to best practice when building bikes
  • Work to maintain the workshop's infrastructure, tools and storage
  • Keep the workshop clean

  • Attend regular on-site and off-site training as part of the team
