They don't call it the UK's Belgium classic for nothing. The Women's CiCLE Classic is rough, tough, bumpy and this year very muddy.
After an overnight deluge, parts of the 115km route looked more like a cyclocross course - perfect conditions to demonstrate the speed and handling of the Handsling A1R0evo road bike.
Two of the teams lining up for the opening round of the British Cycling National Road Series were on A1R0evo frames - Alba Development Road Team and DAS-Hutchinson-Brother (see below). Other riders including Katie-Ann Calton of Saint Piran Pro Cycling were racing their own A1R0evo bikes.
The results speak for the strength of the teams and the performance of their bikes. Three of the top ten finishers were on Handsling frames, including a brilliant second for Alba's Eilidh Shaw. Alba are now the early pace setters in the road series overall standings.
We designed the A1R0evo frame to excel in conditions like this. The frame is stiff and aero when you're stomping on the pedals, yet also durable and comfortable over long distance. Clearance for 32mm tyres allows space for wide rubber, while a tapered seat tube helps to dampen road vibrations.
Speaking after the race, DAS-Hutchinson-Brother riders Sophie Thackray (below) and Frankie Hall commented on their bikes.
"Absolutely bombproof," said Frankie. "Couldn't have asked for a better tool for the job."
Sophie added: "I pushed it hard in some of the sectors and it was faultless. Couldn't have been better."
