Robbie Jones Wins 2025 Welsh Middle Distance Triathlon Championship

Welsh triathlete and Handsling owner Robbie Jones put his TSTRevo to excellent use this season, claiming victory at the 2025 Welsh Middle Distance Triathlon Championships.

The race featured a 1,900m swim in Cardiff Bay, followed by a 90km bike leg and a 21.8km run. Describing the event as a “flat but tricky course, with lots of speed bumps, 90-degree turns, and multiple laps,” Robbie knew it would be a test of focus and handling.

Emerging from the swim in 10th place, around 90 seconds down on the leader, he faced an early challenge. But once on the bike, Robbie showed his class - posting the fastest bike split of the day (2:16:30) at an average speed of 39.4 km/h, and building nearly a five-minute lead. He then maintained his advantage with a strong 1:26:30 half marathon, sealing the championship title.

Following his Welsh victory, Robbie headed to France for the Ironman World Championship in Nice, which he described as “quite the experience!”

The day began with a tough open-water swim off the coast, which Robbie called “a proper fist fight for thirty minutes, with three hundred athletes all battling for space.” The demanding bike leg featured long early climbs, requiring careful pacing, before descending into twisty alpine roads that allowed him to exploit both his technical skill and the TSTRevo’s superb handling.

Coming off the bike “feeling strong and confident to get on with the marathon,” Robbie aimed for a sub-3:20 run. However, the pace didn’t quite come together on the day, and he crossed the line in a total time of 10:38:25.

Despite that, his season has been a standout one, highlighted by a national championship title and a strong showing on the world stage.

Robbie was riding on Handsling’s TSTRevo (pronounced “Tester-evo”) a modern tri-bike, designed to be fast, efficient, yet stable.
