Handsling A1R0evo rider Sophie Lewis has won one of the most prestigious criteriums on the British racing calendar.
Sophie, who rides for our sponsored team DAS-Handsling, powered past three other breakaway riders to claim a superb victory at Otley GP. Previous winners of the historic race include Tom Pidcock, Lizzy Deignan and Mark Cavendish.
Speaking exclusively to Handsling, Sophie said: "It was a really enjoyable race and we raced well as a team. We were aggressive and made the race hard, getting a rider in all the moves.
"I knew I could trust my sprint at the end so it was just a case of dictating how we got to the finish. After a couple of attacks in the last lap we were still together so I just made sure I hit the last corner first. It then felt pretty special to cross the line first and nice to see that the form is there ahead of some big goals coming up."
The win is a huge milestone for DAS-Handsling after narrowly missing out on podium positions at the UK Nationals Circuit Race. It shows the strength in depth of the team, not to mention the race-winning performance of the A1R0evo.
Simon Howes, DAS-Handsling's DS, said: "After a tough Nationals weekend, the team responded magnificently by racing from the front as a unit, supporting and motivating each other. Sophie has pedigree in sprint finishes so we all had full confidence in her being successful."
