How to use Cycle to work at Handsling Bikes?

Employer Cycle to work schemes are a great way to save on the cost of a new bike and spread the payments interest free. Regular monthly amounts are taken directly from your wages so are free of income tax. It’s easy to set up and Handsling can guide you through the process.

The below schemes can be used to purchase any Handsling bike or frame.

Note that as all Handsling bikes are custom built to order, so some form of payment must be made before work will start on your frame or bike.

To start a Cycle to Work order you must pay a £300 non-refundable surcharge

Handsling charge an advance surcharge of £300 to get your frame into the paint queue, giving you time to arrange your cycle to work voucher. From this point it will be 4-6 weeks on average to complete your bike.

Handsling will not start work on a frame without some form of payment. A non-refundable advance payment is your commitment to us that you are serious about buying the bike, and is an additional payment on top of the price of the bike.

Handsling has surcharges for the use of cycle to work schemes when buying Handsling bikes and frames. This is because we are charged a commission by each cycle to work scheme of varying amounts. As a small scale manufacture of customised, bespoke bicycles, we can not afford to simply absorb this cost, hence the surcharge.

For you as a customer, Cycle to work is still the most cost effective way to buy a bike allowing you to pay for it via salary sacrifice, before you pay any income tax. The potential savings using cycle to work are typically between 25%-47% of the overall bike price (depending on your tax bracket).

Process To Order

Step 1

Price up your frame or bike using our online bike builder.

The website will show you the value of your bike, and therefore the value of the voucher you need to request via your employer.

It will also ask you to pay the advance surcharge of £300 on top of the price of your bike.

Step 2

Pay the £300 advance surcharge, which is:

  • Fully-refundable if you change your mind up until the point at which we paint your frame.
  • Non-refundable once your frame is painted.

If you decide not to proceed and cancel after we have already painted your frame, the advance payment covers the cost of us stripping your frame of the paint and putting it back into stock.

Step 3

Once you have paid the £300 advance, you should request your voucher.

Your voucher should be for the full cost of the bike or frame, excluding the £300, which is an additional charge.

Step 4

Handsling will start painting your choice of frame, purchase components for you and start your bike build.

Step 5

Upon receipt of your voucher, send it to us at sales@handslingbikes.com.

Your voucher must have been processed and funds received by Handsling ahead of shipping / collection.

Step 6

We ship or you collect your new frame or bike. Finally, you get to enjoy your new Handsling frame or bike.

You can contact us to discuss your order on sales@handslingbikes.com or by calling 01420 612700

What could I save?

Cycle2Work is an employee benefit which is operated as a salary sacrifice, meaning you agree to give up some of your gross salary (before tax) in exchange for a benefit e.g. a new bike and accessories. By having a salary sacrifice, you’re reducing the amount of income you pay, tax and National Insurance, which is where the savings are made.

The amount you can save is dependent on your tax bracket. The latest tax rates can be seen on the Government website. 20% taxpayers can save 28%, 40% taxpayers can save 42%, and 45% taxpayers can save 47%.
